Does anybody have an Acer Aspire Laptop 7110 that always runs slow when starting up? If so, do you know how I can speed it up? There is an epower management panel that starts up, but I was wondering if this is really necessary and is the cause of the extremely slow starting up of my com, puter?
I know how to use MSCONFIG to disable start up items, but the question is, exactly WHICH ones can I safely disbable without causing my computer to malfunction?
Clean windows registry can speed up the computer.
Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software’s, install new devices,
download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system.
This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched.
Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC.
Clean registry make pc faster.
you wont hurt anything if you turn off all startup items. I’d leave my antivirus antispyware not turned off though. I would want to make sure something isn’t on your machine, try malwarebytes or Superantispyware both available at download.com and do a scan.
Ram was also suggested and at these prices more ram always helps. Need more spec info but doing those thing will help, I also like Glary Utilities as a great way to clean my registry and unnecessary files.
download tune up
it will speed up every thing on your laptop
you get a 30 trial just anouth to get it running fast again
What operating system are you running, home basic is very very slow, upgrade vista to premiere, xp upgrade to pro
I’m buying a laptop which is a “desktop-replacement” type, so can do most things, I’d like it to have Blu-Ray, which both do, and they are of similar prices. I’m not a gamer, but I can’t think of anything else I’d not like to do on my laptop. If anyone of experience could help, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Acer is better
acer is cheaper as far as getting more hard drive space and more ram and a better video card and external usb slots if you buy an HP you are basically paying for the name and it wont come with the better hardware….now acer is newer than HP and is not as well known hence the price value….also if you have any problems usually all computers when you buy them new give you a year or more manufactures warrenty so if it breaks or gets busted up you can just send it to them and they will either fix it or send you a new one
get the HP -- it’ll work long after you don’t want it anymore, unlike the crappy cheaply made acers.
Plus, HP uses better screens.
Source(s):
add: The issue is quality — you can always add more RAM or replace a hard drive. In fact, for a tiny amount more, you can just buy your HP with the same specs.
the HP might be a bit more expensive at the same spec, but that reflects the additional price of components like the screen. Acer screens are typically really terrible.
Both products are near the same, although there are some slight differences. The Acer has a slightly better graphic card and has more memory.
The HP’s blueray has the ability to use rewritable blueray, faster front bus speed for the processor, and a built in webcam.

Red maple trees are also known as Acer rubrum. Its species name is?
A.) red
B.) Acer
C.) maple
D.) rubrum
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Plantae
Division: Magnoliophyta
Class: Magnoliopsida
Order: Sapindales
Family: Sapindaceae
Genus: Acer
Species: A. rubrum
Binomial name -Acer rubrum L.
If one goes through the scientific classification above as it appears in the taxonomy text books ; one would come to the following conclusion invariably-
Acer is the generic name of Maple tree / shrub.
Acer rubrum is the specific name of ‘Red Maple ‘
Only rubrum has no meaning except it denotes a particular color ( Red ).
One can not separate rubrum and say it is a specific name of a particular organism.
OMG people, the answer is D. Don’t confuse this person please.
but be aware that there are 26 seperate species of “Acer” maples”
Source(s):
USDA Website:
http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=ACER
“Acer” is the genus and “rubrum” is the species. Therefore, “D” is correct.
Technically, the answer is E.) none of the above.
Acer is the genus name and Acer rubrum is the species name. The word rubrum is the specific epithet. It is often called the species name, but without the Acer part it just means red. Other red organisms can be Xxxxx rubrum, but nothing else can be Acer rubrum.
The ’species name’ is acer … the ‘rubrum’ means ‘red’ in Latin, which ‘acer’ is Latin for ‘maple’ … and you don’t ‘capitalize’ it any more than you would the name ‘maple’ … so ALL of the choices you gave are incorrect, but I’ve given you the ‘correct answer’ …

I’m not a computer person…I know how to install and uninstall programs, I know how to use video camera related software…all I really want on this laptop is:
1. Mcafee Antivirus
2. Windows Media Player
3. Windows Movie Maker
4. Microsoft Word and
5. VDownloader
Just those things are what I need on this laptop. However, I’m not sure if it’ll have enough memory to support all of these things. I enjoy making video collaborations which means I have to download videos from youtube or metacafe. I have 2 hard-drives on the computer I have now and with how many video collaborations I made, it took up A LOT of space so I’m not really sure what all this information for the laptop means. Can someone explain it to me? And a friend of mine said I dont need an antivirus because Linux is a completely different operating system….but why does that completely mark out the fact that I dont even need an antivirus? I still feel comfortable having one so I dont get a virus ya know?
You dont need any of these things this laptop is a linux laptop. it will come with openoffice -- compatible with MS office. WGET is like Vdownloader. NO anti virus is needed. ITS LINUX not winblows. and Windows Movie Player sucks you can get VLC for that which is MUCH better and supports alot more formats. WIndows movie maker has a better alternative on linux called OpenShot. which will allow you to edit videos with better annimation and effects. WELCOME TO LINUX. ive been using linux for 4 years. in my opinion its better than MAC OS X and windows put together.
but here is what i would do if i were you.. i would install Ubuntu netbook remix on it instead of Linpus Linux Lite .. Linpus Linux Lite SUCKS its limited and you wont get as MUCH software for it as you wouuld with Ubuntu. so once you get your laptop go to www.ubuntu.com and look for the netbook remix version. ITS completely free. you can log into teh forums of ubuntu. ITS under eth support tab. and ask us there what u wanna do and there will be ALOT of people willing to help. i myself use linux mint 8. but since its based on ubuntu i am on ubuntu forums and the IRC support chat channel all teh time. and i will be willing to help you. my name is raj on these channels.
TIP all you need for teh installation is an EMPTY USB stick since you dont have a CD drive. or an external DVD/CD drive that connects via USB.
dont get me wrong linpus might satify you. but why would u want a watered down version of linux while you can get a full blown version of it? and AcerOne can handle linux easily and with SPEED. go on youtube and watch videos of ubuntu netbook remix. or linux mint 8. you can go with regular ubuntu but it might be too heavy for your netbook. plus teh netbook remix has a better interface for smaller screens
and about the antivirus part. YOU DONT NEED ONE because linux is not windows. linux is based on a unix-like kernel just like apple macintosh. there are NO known viruses for linux on the web. Linux has betetr built in security. which means .. no pop ups. no spyware no antivirus is needed. you will love linux after a month of use.
Linux is a completely different operating system that replaces Windows altogether. You won’t be able to run those 5 programs, because they are Windows programs that don’t run on Linux. You will be able to find substitutes that will run on Linux, though.
1. You don’t really need an antivirus program on Linux, as it is much less vulnerable to viruses than Windows. If you do want one, try ClamAV (http://www.clamav.net/).
3. Windows Movie Maker will be the hardest to replace. I think that Cinelerra (http://cvs.cinelerra.org/) is still the most robust video editing program for Linux.
4. Microsoft Word is replaced by the OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/) program that comes pre-installed. It can read and write Word-format files.
5. Instead of Vdownloader, use the DownloadHelper extension to the Firefox web browser (http://www.downloadhelper.net/). Your computer probably will come with Firefox as its default browser.
Like you have heard before, linux is completely different.
You really dont need antivirus. For all particle purposes, there are no viruses for linux, there is no malware for linux, not because no one writes for the platform, but because it is more secure then windows. Really, you dont need an antivirus program.
Also, with the type of file system linux (and mac) uses, you also never need to defrag like you do on windows.
You also never have to mess with registries again, linux uses conf files to store application data and it works much better.

i prefer the acer laptop because it’s cheaper and it’s battery life is longer, what do you think?
Personally I would go for HP. Not because I believe it is a better brand, since Acer do have some very reasonable laptops, but mainly because of the comparison of the specs for both laptops you listed.
First of all HP, despite housing an AMD CPU is actually more powerfull than the pathetic T4300 that you will get in the Acer. Another important fact worth pointing out -- both Acer and HP come with Win 7, but HP actually houses a CPU which will support Windows7 and XP-Mode, as it has a CPU which is capable of hardware virtualization. M320 mobile CPU supports it and the Intel T4300 does not. You may not think of it as a big deal, but XP mode is extremely useful and it is always worth getting a PC/laptop which has full hardware support.
Secondly, I would certainly rather have ATI Radeon HD 3200 housed in the HP than settle for a Intel Graphics 4500MHD. Now we got that out of the way, I do like the fact that HP comes fitted with a Lightscribe drive. It certainly has its uses if you are familiar what Lightscribe is all about.
Overall, despite the price difference, the HP definitely offers more for just extra £50. If you want to buy a throwaway laptop then get Acer. If you want a laptop which will last you for while then get HP.
Yeah acer laptops are cool in style as well as in looks too
Simply go to the below mentioned website which will be really great

I’m having serious problems with my computer. It has a terrible virus. Please help?
I have an Acer laptop. It’s Windows Vista. My computer was running great until about three days ago when I went to the website where you can watch movies. As soon as I went to the website my Internet closed down and something came up that said my computer was hijacked and it had 20 infections. I was like what the heck? I have Mcafee security and the thing that came up telling me my computer was hijacked was Windows Vista. But the weird that about that is, at the top of the box it says “unregistered version.” I did a full scan on mcafee and it says I have nothing wrong with my computer. And every time I try to get on the internet it says I can’t. And it goes right back to the page where it say i’m unprotected. But in my mcafee security it says I am…i’m completely confused.
You can use SpywareNoMore.
As we all know Computer hackers seeking financial gain rather than thrills or notoriety are increasingly flooding the Internet with malicious software code (spyware, adware, key loggers, trojans). They are infecting computers with highly sophisticated programs that record surfing habits, bank passwords and other key financial data and send them to crooks over the Internet. These programs can be hard to spot, disguised in downloads such as toolbars, search engines, browser accessories, screen savers and other seemingly helpful utilities.
SpyNoMore anti-spyware safeguards your identity and restores system performance through fast, smart and powerful spyware protection. http://www.dvd-rip-software.com/Other-So…
Thats the website. Some websites put on a script, to give the visitors a message similar to wat you got. About the unregistered version of your antivirus, im thinking it is a virus. Just throw in the recovery disc that they gave you when you bought the laptop, and make sure to back up ur files. It will recover back to what it was when you first turned it on.
ESET has not missed a single virus in a test in 6 years and no other anti virus program can say that in the world. wikipedia it and see for yourself. plus I’ve been using it for over a year and it’s 110% flawless. IT’S, AVG, AVIRA, MALEWAREBYTES, SPYBOT, AND REG CLEAN ALL IN 1
and don’t worry about people giving me thumbs down it’s actually someone stalking me and logging in under different names…lol.
do a manual update on McaFee and try again if that doesn’t work you can get a good free anti-malware program here, read the reviews and scroll down this is a very good site http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-fre…
3) It can be moved from computer to computer as needed. We have tested it on both laptops and desktops running Windows 7 and it performs flawlessly.
Cons: 1) I was not able to complete the calibration routine as part of setup. I had difficulty getting the T230H to recognize the lower left calibration corners using a stylus from a Windows XP Tablet computer. I canceled calibration and used the factory settings. The T230H reads the lower left corners fine with its factory settings so this is really not an issue. 3) For best results (individual use), the T230H requires something like an Ergotron arm so that the screen is better positioned for touch input (positioned more like a keyboard resting on the desktop). However, the unit is great for demonstrating multi-touch applications to others when using its included stand. For more ideas about using the T230H with an Ergotron arm see the terrific post at the Green Button by htpc2009 who covers using the HP 2105TM as a controller for Windows 7 Media Center. It is not quite as accurate as the iPhone’s touch screen but then again everything is bigger on a 23″ screen lol. It does however work with the back of pencils, pens, corners of paper, tops of water bottles, actually just about any solid object can be used to interact with this touch screen. As far as I know, the iPhone can only respond to skin on screen interactions. The touch actions themselves on the T230H are very responsive with little effort at all. You can even bring your finger very close to the surface without touching the screen and the computer will respond to your position and click wherever your finger is about 1mm above the surface of the screen. I still find myself using the mouse often because I don’t want to raise my arms for long periods of time. One area the touch has great potential is when viewing/editing photos. It is very helpful to just “flick” between photos and also to zoom and rotate photos. Using it to scroll on web pages is also fun and often easier than clicking on the bar or up/down arrows on the left of the browser.

Left the computer on last night, and the fan was going off constantly and was loud. The computer is in my dads room so its going to bother him while hes trying to sleep. I turned the computer off and the fan went off with it for a while. Then it just turned back on, the desktop was off, both the tower and the monitor was off, but the fan was still going and was loud again. I know the fan is going to be loud because its pushing out air, I dont think the desktop is bad or anything, Im just wondering why the fan keeps coming on.
I turned the desktop back on to get online to ask this question, the second the computer turned on, the fan shut off. So I dont know what the deal is, why its doing this, but other than unplugging the tower everytime I turn the computer off, what can I do about the fan not shutting off? Thanks for any help.
Odds are you’re not actually turning off the computer. It’s either going to Stand-by, or you’re just turning off the monitor. I suggest using the Start->Shutdown->Shutdown instead of using the power button (different OS’s and Comptuers have it configured for either shutdown, standby, or hibernation).
Okay, first off, is it getting really hot? Because if so it is overheating and it is trying to cool itself. If not then try resetting the bios to manufacturer defaults. If that does not work, then i do not know. Make sure that air can get in the pc and get back out, the better the air flow the better it will cool. Resetting the bios is because programs or you could have changed some settings and the fan is going at full speed to keep it cooler, this is good if you want to overclock but if not then it does get pesky. I’m sorry i could not be of more help.
I would just unplug the whole computer then.I know it would suck though. But at least it is a desktop in stead of a laptop.I used to have a acer laptop though. But acers suck.So I would get a compaq. There good computers. You shouldn’t get a off brand computers.Compaq,Gateway,hp’s,dell are good computers
Acer D241H monitor has built-in WiFi, media player, identity …
As long as boot up times are practically instant, this would actually be a fairly good idea. Instead of having to turn on a PC, you could quickly check your emails on the monitor before going to the office.
Does this mean though that if it has a built-in media player, it has built-in speakers? Also, is it touchscreen, or full keyboard-controlled. Also, is the included keyboard optional/compatible with regular keyboards, or would owners need to have two keyboards on the desk at all times?
Could be popular for boutiques or stores that don’t want to have a pc/laptop connected to the monitor to show say, the store website or promotion material. One could create ads / signage and post them online, and just connect to a specific page with all the monitors. I like it. Could also look at say the weather, news, etc without connecting to a laptop. All now depends on the price point.
I don’t think anyone will buy this unless it’s cheap as dirt. While it’s an interesting concept, this sort of uber-monitor still takes up exactly the same amount of space as an all-in-one computer, with hardly the same functionality. At least netbooks and tablet pcs (awkward niche-searching cousins) distinguish themselves by offering super-portability and new ways to interact with media. Why anyone would buy this type of uber-monitor as opposed to, for example, a cheap high-res “normal” monitor or a 27″ iMac, beats me.

I want to get the new acer aspire one for school, but i want to be able to watch videos, browse the internet, and be able to use social networking and not have to worry about anything. So what can i do on a mini laptop, or the new acer aspire one for, or what should i use it for out of the top three things.
this is the one i am thinking of getting: http://us.acer.com/showrooms/aspireone/
I’m on one, right now. My husband gave it to me for Christmas.
Mine came with Windows 7 installed, but only Windows 7 Starter is unlocked -- we’ll have to purchase the unlocking of the more robust features.
I blog on mine, I read ebooks (the Amazon Kindle software installed beautifully), play games downloaded from Shockwave, and if I had more RAM, I could play World of Warcraft. Since I don’t have any peripheral drives, I haven’t tried watching any DVDs or play with my CD collection on it. I’m a little annoyed by the slightly smaller keyboard, as I’ve been touch-typing since I was 11. I would recommend getting a USB 10-key, if you’re used to using your 10-key pad on a regular desktop keyboard.
Needless to say, I use it to browse the web -- it’s how I’m answering your question. So, yeah, 2 out of 3 things that you want, I’m doing. I can probably install Microsoft Office on this, once I unlock Windows 7, so I could do stuff for work.
Anything! except for high performance apps like 3d gaming, video editing, intense photoshopping, etc. Netbooks (mini laptops) work great as Web browsing computers but they can also do tons of other stuff like media playback (both music and video plays smoothly on my netbook, even straight up DVD rips in full quality), Web video (unlike the “netbook killing” iPad netbooks can actually play Flash content), video chat (most have a webcam built in), Office programs, older games, note taking, downloading (if you have an external hard drive a netbook would be a great downloading machine, uses next to zero power compared to other PC’s), and other general tasks. I do a lot of programming on mine because I’m on the robotics team and like having a tiny PC that is easy to carry around and use outside.
netbooks (mini laptops) are best for checking email, doing hw, playing some flash games, and watching vids on youtube. netbooks aren’t very powerful. laptops are much better but more expensive.
i have a acer aspire one 10.1. i use it for surfing the internet, video streaming is not that great, when you are watching a youtube video it drags a little bit than works ok.sound card sucks, not that loud.hard drive space is 250gb. built in camera on the note book. works great. the sd card reader works great. has no cd-rom or dvd-rom you have to buy a usb one.i did and it works good with the note book. The wireless card works great. it is ok for the price you pay.
New Laptops: Top 5 mini laptops: What's your pick?
This younger sibling to notebooks is successfully gripping its stand in the markets. These laptops are not only compact and portable, but also the prices are exceptionally nominal. Let’s throw some light on some innovative mini laptops, which you can opt for your computing purposes. i can no longer game BF bad company 2 on my dads PC (my PC are crappy) because it can “damage” the PC. that’s just bull, right?
acer win7 -- 2007 model i think…
Games tend to use up alot of processing power (cpu and gpu) so the computer gets hot. The heat could possibly cause the computer to fail. But only under certain conditions like the computer was already dusty inside and/or the fans aren’t working.
However under normal conditions gaming will have no difference on the computer. Your dad is probably worried about you installing other things rather than the game itself.
Well, it depends on the computer actually and its condition. Gaming does stress the components and they could overheat if they are not dust free and have the case fans working properly. Especially if you have overclocked components, gaming is something you need to take cautiously since frying your processor or video card is never fun.
Either the game works, or it doesn’t. The only way the game can “damage” your dad’s computer is if the game was downloaded illegally from a bad (usually bittorrent) site and that the game was already infected with viruses and malware.
Almost impossible for a game to damage a PC. The only possible cause of such damage would be from overheating. Even then this would have to be caused by poor ventilation on the computer itself. So yes, it’s bull.
Unless it’s really dirty and dusty and you play it to the point it overheats, then there’s not really any damage that it can do.
He’s either very uninformed or just doesn’t want you to play. I’d bet on not wanting you to play.
I wouldn’t say that gaming can damage a computer, However
Gaming usually does put more of a load on your computer than any other tasks yu may run.
It’s possible that you can get a virus through multiplayer, but other than that you should be find as long as you don’t over clock it.
Acer Aspire AS5740-5749 Review Best Notebook Value Acer Customer …

I just got a brand new laptop, an Acer Aspire AS5740-5749 15.6″ Notebook featuring Windows 7 which I absolutely love and is a night and day improvement over my previous XP Toshiba Tecra A8-S8513 Notebook. In my opinion at around $695 the Acer Aspire AS5740-5749 is the Best Notebook Value one will find. This is a mixed review though as the Acer Computer Company in my opinion is a bunch of Rip Off Scam Artists and the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. More about that later.
The Acer Aspire AS5740-5749 is easily the fastest notebook/laptop I’ve ever had and the internal speakers are the best laptop speakers I ever heard, albeit that still doesn’t make them fantastic considering that internal laptop speakers suck but the sound of the Acer Aspire AS5740-5749 is decent and high on the food chain of internal laptop speakers. I can play rock CDs and mp3 files and watch DVDs and videos and the sound is a decent representation of what I would hear on my home audio system though not in the league of a home/audio video system. Windows 7 is so much better and easier to use then XP, its not funny. I’m fairly computer literate and it took me about 3 days to get the hang of Windows 7 but it is a vast improvement over XP. My internet surfing also seems faster and its easier to multitask as I can now for example run at the same time a registry scan and a virus scan on 2 different programs which for whatever reason I couldn’t do before. My favorite feature of Windows 7 though is that by the far right hand corner next to the clock is there is now a small black box which when you click it immediately puts you on the desktop screen! I can also play blu-ray discs on the Acer Aspire AS5740-5749 and the picture and sound is excellent. My boot up and shut down time is very fast and the shut down time is just a few short seconds while on my previous computer it took several annoying minutes. I don’t know if this is all due to the Acer Aspire AS5740-5749 Intel Core i3-330M(2.13GHz) or Windows 7 or both, but the improvement is startling. The notebook is very light and so light in fact that when I open up the latch to pull up the monitor screen I need to hold down the notebook body (the source area by the keypad) which is no problem. The Acer Aspire AS5740-5749 is very nice looking cosmetically. The keys on the keyboard are flat and large and took me about 5 days to get used to- at first it was very uncomfortable and I kept making typing errors but around the fifth day I felt very comfortable with it. Apparently Acer makes all they keyboards on their new laptops this way.

I’m really finding it hard to choose between these two laptops and im getting one 2moro so i need serious help. The first is the Acer Aspire 8920g (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/p…
- Apple isn’t that good, you pay way over the odds for the parts you get.
- Yeah, Acer is pretty poor, it’s mainly their budget PCs that are generally what to avoid, i just wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole
- Not true, the Acer one it worse, and here’s why:
The Acer one has a bigger screen which is nice, but you don’t want to have to carry around such a huge laptop, it’ll be heavy. The HP has a small 15.4″ screen, which, having used one before, is actually perfectly fine. The HP has the same amount of RAM as the Acer, but it’s DDR3 as opposed to the DDR2 in the Acer. It does have a smaller HDD but i wouldn’t worry much; you can get a high capacity external HDD to store extra data on for very cheap these days if/when the internal HDD is full. The graphics card in the HP (9600) is way better than the one in the Acer (9500), that added 100 makes a big difference in games.
The HP does have a better video device for games, but the acer has a faster processor. I suppose the debate here would be solved by whether the asker wanted to play games or not.
As for RAM, more RAM is better than RAM that has a higher read/write bandwidth. There is at most a 10% performance gain in most applications by increasing the read/write bandwidth with DDR3, whereas the difference between using more RAM instead of a hard drive paging file is significant. With RAM these days, more is usually better than bandwidth. If you were comparing DDR266 and DDR3 1800, then the difference would justify getting the DDR3. However, the acer has DDR2, which is probably at 800mhz effective.
Aside from quantity being better than read/write bandwidth, DDR3 has higher latencies than DDR2, which has higher latencies than DDR1. It essentially means the ram is slightly slower in response. It’s nothing significant and never noticeable.
Who wants to lug around an external hard drive enclosure and its power supply anyway? internal hard drive is much more convenient. Personal preference here really…
While the 9600 does make the HP better for games, the acer is better for just about everything else.

Deanna, I had the self same problem, there is no need for recovery disks, reboot your system and hold the ALT key whilst tapping F10, wait for the system to boot and you should be prompted with 4 options, if not then let the system boot as normal click your start tab search for ACER ERECOVERY and you can do a full system restore from there. Hope this helps, works on ALL Acer Aspire Models.
